A Welcome From the Chair,
With alot of anticipation, I am pleased to announce the formation of the Sustainability Institute (SI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers in Georgia. As the stewards of society’s physical infrastructure, it is incumbent on civil engineers to lead in sustainable built environment.
Vision
The vision of the SI is to serve and lead the next shift in sustainable planning, design and construction in a manner that provides environmental, economical and social well-being now and in the future.
Mission
The Mission of the SI shall be to become a center to address issues related to sustainability in building the environment.
1. advancing the knowledge and improving practice,
2. aligning with the ASCE National Sustainability objectives while focusing on Georgia needs,
3. advancing technical venues and market opportunities,
4. partnering with governmental, industrial, educational, and other organizations and stakeholders, and
5. lending expertise to the development of public policy.
The SI shall strive in the area of validating sustainability practices and developing measures and standards to quantify and qualify engineering sustainability practices based on a comprehensive review and identification of current practices.
The SI shall strive to be the leader for integrating technical expertise and public policy into the planning, design, construction, operation, management, and regulation of sustainable infrastructure involving air, land, and water resources.
The SI shall strive for a diverse, active and empowered membership, excellence in products and services, collaborative associations and innovative programs.
